LongHorn Help

The following is all anyone outside of Microsoft knows about LongHorn Help at this time ...

Longhorn.HELP Bits Available
October 28, 2003

One surprise that arrived yesterday was a press release from Tracy Gunzenhauser of ComponentOne announcing support for Microsoft Help.Longhorn in future versions of ComponentOne Doc-To-Help. My first thought was to how they could have any information about this format at all. Later in the day, I found a fairly new public newsgroup in the Microsoft hierarchy: microsoft.public.msdn.annotations. This newsgroup then led me to the online Longhorn SDK. Once you've followed this link, for some browsability, check out the following in the Contents pane:

  • Technologies
    • Client Programming
      • "Longhorn" Help
        • "Longhorn" Help Authoring Guide
        • "Longhorn" Help SDK

For those looking for reference documentation on MAML, it's under the Authoring Guide node.

You can see the information that's been released about Longhorn.HELP at:

** MSDN subscribers only: If you want to obtain preview versions of VS Whidbey and Longhorn itself (which has the Longhorn SDK documentation and Longhorn Help compiler bits) you can request a set of the software via MSDN. The announcement states that this is only available on DVD. For more info, click here and see the heading "Longhorn and Whidbey Previews available to MSDN Subscribers"
