Copyright Information

One of the most troublesome issues we've had over the years is that of web site developers, programmers, and even large corporations (whose legal departments should know better) redistributing sample code from our history of sites without permission and without giving credit where it's due. At the same time, there are sites out there that do have our permission to repost code and, in some cases, they've developed completely new tutorials around that same code. We do allow such things.

How have they accomplished this? They simply asked.

Here are some rules to consider:

  • If you have a specific reason for wanting to redistribute our code or other works, such as writing tutorials in languages other than English, let's talk about it.
  • If you'd like to redistribute something "whole-hog", such as the MS Help 2.0 Custom Viewer (which is now distributed with some of FarPoint Technologies' .NET products), we should definitely discuss it.
  • If you'd like to use something like the HTML Help Visual Basic Class Module in a commercial product, as a few companies have, we can discuss this as well.
  • If you're going to repost code from this site on your own site and claim it as your own work ... don't.

When it comes to my work, and the work of others who've been kind enough to create works for this site, be polite about it and we'll get along. It's not that difficult.
